Book review #5: Nine Perfect Strangers

Book review: Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty.

Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐

This book was published in 2018 – can you believe it?! Unfortunately I only found out about it recently when I saw the Amazon Prime adaptation of it featuring Nicole Kidman in lead role. I somehow felt like the TV-series was not enough, like it wasn’t doing the book justice. I just had to read it!

So the book! Loved it (!) but honestly, the first half was dragged out a liiiiittle too long than necessary. Of course, the setting up of the story and character are important, yes but it was just going on and on – I considered abandoning it a few times. That said, I do love how all the characters were carefully woven and developed so well that I found myself rooting a little too hard for all of them especially Frances.

It started to get moving in the middle, this is when it starts being fun & I just CANNOT stop reading.

And the ending was drawn out perfectly. Not rushed but slowly brought down and tied well. 🤌
I would have loved it so much more if the first half didn’t feel like the drag it was.

Summary (from GR):
Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.

Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House. Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer—or should she run while she still can? It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.

So, what are you waiting for – go have a read and let me know what you think!
